According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film directed by Greta Gerwig and led by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling reached a milestone two weeks after its release on July 21st, Sunday, by reaching a massive financial milestone, competing with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer at the cinemas.
As reported by Deadline, the film earned $53 million domestically in its third weekend.
‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ have made it the biggest earning week for AMC Theaters.
Barbie’s incredible success at the box office made it the highest-grossing film on Monday after its domestic opening weekend of 155 million dollars by Warner Bros. Pictures and the biggest opening weekend for a female-directed film in the industry.
In 2019, Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, held the title with $153 million, while Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, set the record with $103 million for a female-directed film as reported by Variety.
According to outlets, Barbie also earned the biggest opening weekend of 2023, surpassing the $146 million earned by the Super Mario Brothers movie.
In its notable second weekend at the cinemas, Barbie received a substantial boost and earned an additional $93 million domestically.

Barbie’s success has inspired Mattel, the owner of the Barbie brand, to plan 14 additional Mattel properties, including a Polly Pocket film directed by Lena Dunham and starring Lily Collins, for the silver screen.
Other Mattel film projects involving directors, actors, or notable producers include a Hot Wheels film produced by J.J. Abrams, a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots film starring Vin Diesel, a Barney film led by Daniel Kaluuya, and a Major Matt Mason film featuring Tom Hanks.
The success of Oppenheimer also led to greater profits for the Oppenheim Movie Theater. According to Variety, the biopic of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) became the first R-rated film to earn more than $10 million in consecutive ten days after its release, surpassing Universal Pictures’ estimates.
Barbie is currently playing in theaters.
