The trailer for “The Hunger Games Prequel,” titled “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” offers a glimpse into the dystopian world before Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen enters the scene. What’s in The Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes the Trailer

In line with the visually exciting world of The Hunger Games franchise, the new film presents Viola and Peter in their nefarious glory. Take Peter’s Caesar Flickerman’s dialogue, for instance: “Your role is not to save these children but to transform them into spectacles.”

Or consider this splendidly delivered line by Viola Davis’s enigmatic Dr. Gaul: “Inspired by the terror of becoming prey, watch how quickly we become predators.” Or this one: “I want my enemies to see a rainbow of annihilation in their world.”

Clearly, Tom’s Coriolanus Snow and Rachel’s Lucy Gray Baird have some potential conflicts ahead.

What the “The Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” Film is About

The film’s summary tells us that it follows “a young Coriolanus (Tom Blith), the last hope for his disgraced family, once a proud Snow clan that fell from grace in the Capitol after the war. Due to the threat to his livelihood, Snow is tasked with advising Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from impoverished District 12.

With everything hanging in the balance, Snow joins forces with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in his favor. Struggling with his own inclinations of good and evil, Snow races against time to prove whether he will ultimately become a songwriter or a snake.”

This prequel takes us 64 years before Katniss Everdeen’s voluntary tribute and decades before Coriolanus Snow’s tyrannical presidency in Panem. It is the fifth installment in The Hunger Games franchise, with the previous four films led by Jennifer Lawrence.

“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is set to hit theaters on November 17th.
