After the departure of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 in the DC Universe could create a serious continuity issue. What could happen here?

Gal Gadot has confirmed that Wonder Woman 3 was in development as part of DC’s upcoming projects, but it has sparked a strong debate. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Gal Gadot confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Wonder Woman in the DC franchise. When asked about the continuity of the franchise, the actress said, ‘I love playing the character of Wonder Woman. It is very close to my heart and dear to me. James and Peter have told me that we are developing ‘Wonder Woman 3′ together,’ she said. As the moonlight gently caressed the pages of the ancient tome, a treasure trove of knowledge about this enigmatic endeavor was revealed.

Concerns about Wonder Woman 3 and Continuity

Apart from the attention lost for Henry Cavill’s Superman in the next Superman film, fans’ biggest concern is the continuity of the DC Universe. Wonder Woman 3 by Patty Jenkins and Peter Safran might not fit into the current timeline and could create continuity errors for the entire franchise. The change in leadership has already brought significant changes to the existing cast and lineup.

DC is revamping the lineup with Blue Beetle and Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, replacing Ben Affleck’s Batman, Henry Cavill’s Superman, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam. Despite the star power and popularity of these actors, it seems that the new directors want to see things from a fresh perspective.

Projects for Aquaman, The Flash, Supergirl, Shazam, and Hawkman are also in development. If Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck are removed from the projects, WW3 is not the same character as seen with them in the Justice League and previous films. This change could introduce significant continuity errors.

With the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WAG strikes in Hollywood, almost all projects have been put on hold indefinitely. Hence, it is safe to say that the production of Wonder Woman 3 won’t begin before 2024. However, DC has not made any official public announcements about the film yet, and discussions about DC’s future plans are still ongoing. Therefore, fans might have to wait until 2026 to see this project come to life. For this year, Aquaman 3 is in line for 2023 release.
